Distances between places, times, different beings collide and become fragments in each of the 13 tracks of the second Obsil’ album.
These compositions are characterized by a visionary and evocative mood originated by melodic grains, sometimes deranged, that stand out on an ethereal soundscape generated by a fusion between original and complexes synthetic sounds, instruments from the symphonic orchestra, and a myriad of field recordings. The sounds flow quickly and fade away in the air, breaking melodies that they suddenly recreate.
Distances is the yield of a constant quotidian work of musical research and sonic experimentation, a sort of sound-diary where the peculiarity of the environment in which the album was composed breaks into every track: in fact, every field recordings present in the album was taken in Val di Merse (Siena, Tuscany), the place where Giulio Aldinucci was born and lives.

“Little Shapes” that appear from the end of a barely-lit room; strange musical instruments and percussions coming from distant lands, threads of sound captured by digital sound card, field recordings, synthesized soundscapes. This is the world Racoon belongs to.
Indeed there does exist a world made of sounds, that is as little life fragments fading away from the instant they appear and then turning into sensations as they crumble; ecognisable in a past time still familiar to everyone.

Raccon’s aim is not experimentation of new sound forms, rather it is the search for an intimate dimension that is otherwise imperceptible. Through these “little shapes”, Racoon reveals what is invisible to the eye. “Little Shapes” is like a promise that everyone is welcome in this little world.

“Litttle Shapes” is Racoon’s debut album. Disasters By Choice

Volcano Through twelve tracks the record synthesizes the essence of the band. Francesca’s voice is perfectly supported by the soft and effective chords of Andrea Carella’s guitar and by Jenny Burnazzi’s emotive cello. Advised for those who still feel for simple songs.

Echoes of the whales is a record of eerie folk with guitars (played by Stefano Pilia and Jukka Riverberi of Giardini Di Mirò, among others), Farfisa organs, feedbacks and digital grains merging to create a fertile resounding ground: a real extension of the natural environment. Actually, you may find listening to these echoes very fulfilling while paddling in your kayak, cleaning up a shore or trying to photograph penguins in Antarctica.

This album includes all the fundamental points of Obsil’s artistic path, always characterized by an innate inclination to the experimentation and the research of original musical languages, as well as by the love for classical and contemporary music.
Every piece is characterized by a multitude of ethereal sounds that finely merge with the environment where the music is reproduced, dissolving themselves in the air to create an evocative and heterogeneous soundscape where melodic grains and almost imperceptible fragments of voices move around.
A recurring mutation of musical “images”, like points fixed on insane lines, guides the development of this compositions. Sound fragments, like unclear remembrances, vanish and suddenly come back without chipping away at the coherence of the pieces.

… Before the 'poppy' "la tete qui flotte" (Autres Directions 2005), Melodium composed a quasi instrumental album based on acoustic guitar and analogic sounds... the aim is always to express feelings through the use of simple and melancholic melodies...
… A refined, sweet and nostalgic sound, distracted in its interferences, highlights the gentleness of Laurent Girard’s touch, for his third album on Disasters By Choice.

SLOW MOTION
Summer of my youth

2004
Cat. CDNUY011

Summer of my youth is the fruit of a certain opening to pop music sonorities in comparison with Slow Motion’s previous works. The post-wave inspiration with hints of late 80’s/early ‘90’s atmospheres appears in sung tracks or in others where melody is a strong carrying element. The variety of character, style and aesthetics, in balance among electronic and unplugged sonorities and solid sound’s samplings are the co-ordinates in which the artistic creation moves.
Poised on emphasis and minimalism, nostalgic citation and avant-garde, rhythmic construction built according to mathematic rules and melodic sensibility, traditional song’s shape and disintegration of it, the track’s texture is stratified on glitch, microfrequencies and interferences: all this creates deeply evocative complex sound landscapes.
The laptop, used either as a composition tool or as a means of expression during live acts, is the focus of the electronic creative experience and it’s blended with double-bass, analogical and digital synthesizer, marimbas and voice.

The BoyLucas side

Theboylucas is a 22 year old kid from Bristol who has bewitched all with his debut album, Out Of The Wires (2003) on Output. For this split album he realized a unique track, (27 minutes) condensing different and delicious atmospheres. His long and kaleidoscopic composition, What Would, Could and Should Have Been, is a tangled labyrinth of sounds and evocations, in which is pleasant to lose our bearings.

Layer side

Layer is a solo project of a young kid from Rome, whose method based on repeated processings of short compositions for electric guitar, marked by a massive use of delays, effects and various electronic equipment.
Half among the ambient of Labradford and the delicate sketches of Vine Reilly of Durutti Column, his compositions are fragile and impalpable figures that soon get lost in electrostatic fog banks.
Layer's fantastic debut will hand you earthly beings in the faint glimmering world of twilight butterflies where tiny sounds shape goldust rising

THE CIRCLESOUTH

The circlesouth was born in the fall of 2000.The attempt was to combine the typical sound of an indie-rock's line-up with infuences and characteristic contaminations of electronic instruments. This project comes from the idea of five young guys (the medium age is 22 years) coming from the small but musically prolific city of Pordenone, in the north-east of Italy. The two years's work is collected in their nine tracks-debut album, remind nothing , on disasters by choice.Forty minutes of selected romantic melodies, psychedelic suites, effected guitars, noisy samples, but also percussive drum and basses, obsessive guitar riffs, soft electric pianos, sequencers and piano and voice 's duets. Guest star in this debut is amaury cambuzat, leader of the french-italian band ulan bator ,who lends his voice and a poetic lyric to the song "le couler".Nine tracks in which different attitudes are mixed up, creating an elegant and personal sound.

“A Slight Difference In The Air Pressure” is the Melodium second album on Disasters by Choice, in which Laurent Girard confirm his peculiar pop eclectic sound.
… "A melancholic electronica partly built around acoustic elements wrapped
in blankets of analogue wave..." "a play of hidden minimal melodies...".
"...it is simply a blend of classical guitar and piano melodies with electronic sounds and beats…".
The album was recorded between January and April 2001, modified in October 2001 and in July 2002. Since his beginnings Melodium has collaborated with various labels, such as Static Caravan, Active Suspension, Peter i'm flaying.
His debut album on Disasters by Choice, "Quiet Noise Area" (2001), was unanimously acclaimed by the italian and international press, such as Blow Up, Musica, Rumore, Mucchio Selvaggio , Rockerilla , The Wire (UK) and Magic!(FRA), as well as various webzine.

The days of station wagons

Free and intimate expressive forms, anomalous electronic music where the digital base is dissolved by the warm and mesmerizing acoustic sound ofdrums and double bass. Delicate samplings and tangled rythmic structures create a perfectly balanced whole, in which extremely different sounds and moods melt together: from ambient to electro-rock, from minimal-techno to house music. Announced by some exciting and promising live performances, "The Days of Station Wagon" is the album which endorses the ultimate maturity of a band with both simple and brilliant intuitions.

Melodium is the project of a 25 years old french man called Laurent Girard
melodium is in fact a contraction between "melodie" and "medium"
melodium's first release is a 7" on the english "static caravan" label
called "rhythmi"(last year) another 7" should be done really soon on the same label on these two 7" you can find concrete melodies (often sad ones) and weird beats in the CD called "quiet noise area" with the disastersbychoice label, the approach was less electronica, it is simply a blend of classical guitar and
piano melodies with electronic sounds and beats, the whole recorded with few
equipment in a shaft's mind, it is just an experiment and melodium's works
are now much more concerned with electronica.

Micro:mega is the result of a collaboration between two french musicians : Sylvain Chauveau (keyboard, guitars) and Fred Luneau (guitars, sampler, bass).
This collaboration started in 1998.
A first album ("Photosphere") was released in april 1999 on the french label Noise Museum.
The music of the band is based on soft electronic loops and meditative waves of guitar and organ.
A second album ("Human") will be released in september 2000.
In the new CD "Dump", released by the italian label Disasters By Choice, Micro:mega tries to express another part of their sonic universe in five new pieces.
If the quiet "Touch" and "From the window" use cool jazz and ambient colors, a real rythmic aspect clearly appears on "White sand" and "Built".
